Watched my credit score jump 48 points in 90 days after one stupid mistake
Got denied for a car loan back in January. Score was 612. Found out I had a $300 medical bill from 3 years ago that went to collections without me even knowing. Paid it off and disputed it. By April it hit 660. How long did it take you guys to bounce back from something like that?

I read somewhere that medical debt under $500 doesn't even show up on some of the newer scoring models now. That $300 bill of yours would have been toast under those rules. Still, jumping 48 points in 90 days is pretty solid for just paying off one small collections item. I've heard stories of people stuck in the low 600s for years over smaller stuff than that. Guess it all depends on what else is on your report and how old the negative marks are.

Wait, is that true about medical debt under $500? @grantthomas, I wish I'd known that before I stressed for months over a $400 ER bill that dinged my score.
