Serious question, my 6 year old cherry tomato plant split down the main stem in the storm last Tuesday, should I tape it or let it ride?

I used to say just let it ride, plants heal themselves. Then I taped one after a split and it actually came back fine, so now I'm team tape. Get some stretchy plant tape or even painter's tape and wrap it snug, don't strangle it.
