My prize tomato plant snapped clean in half during a storm last week
Had a big heirloom Brandywine tomato plant that was doing great, then a thunderstorm came through last Tuesday and broke the main stem right at the soil line. I figured it was dead but I stuck the top half in a bucket of water overnight and then planted it deep in a new pot. It's been 5 days now and the leaves haven't even wilted, so I guess I got a free second plant out of it. Anyone else ever had a busted plant bounce back like that?

Honestly I read somewhere that tomato stems can grow roots along the buried part if you plant them deep enough. Sounds like you accidentally did exactly what you were supposed to do.

Yeah but planting them too deep can rot the stem before those bonus roots even get a chance to grow.
