My favorite shears just gave out during a precision cut yesterday.

I was doing a detailed point cut on a client's bob, and the tension screw snapped clean off. They were my trusty Takumi 5.5s, and I've had them for nearly eight years. I had to quickly grab my backup pair to finish the appointment, but the whole rhythm was thrown off. Has anyone else had a main tool fail mid-service, and what's your go-to backup plan?

Disagree completely with keeping duplicate tools like kai_west said. Carrying a full backup for everything is a waste of money and space. Tools are built to last, and a failure like your shears is just a freak accident. You got eight years out of them, that's a good run. My backup plan is just having a basic pair around for emergencies, not mirroring my whole kit. Why spend hundreds on a second set of your best shears that just sit there?

Had a torque wrench shatter on me while doing a head gasket. The sound alone made me jump. Now I keep a duplicate of every core tool in my main box.
