Can we talk about a client who said my blending was 'harsh'?

A regular told me last month that the highlights I gave her looked 'too stripey' and the blend was harsh. I was using a standard foiling technique I learned in school. I switched to a balayage approach for her next appointment, focusing on softer placement and more hand-painted sections. The result was way more natural and she loved it. Do you think some classic techniques need updating, or was I just applying them wrong?

Classic techniques are fine, you just messed up.

Classic techniques work when you understand the pressure points. You probably used too much force on the shears or held the blade at the wrong angle. Go slower, let the tool do the work. A rushed cut always shows.
