Spent $15k on a forensic accountant for a contract dispute and it was totally worth it
I mean, everyone in my company said it was a waste of money and we should just rely on our internal numbers. But our vendor was suing us for $200k in unpaid invoices, claiming we breached the supply agreement. I pushed to hire a forensic accountant to go through three years of purchase orders and payment records. It took her about a month, but she found a pattern of duplicate billing and charges for services we never approved. Her report basically gave our lawyers everything they needed. The other side settled for like $20k, which was way less than they wanted. Has anyone else had a good result from bringing in a specialist like that?

Isn't it funny how the people who said it was a waste of money are now the same ones asking you for her number? I once spent $500 on a consultant to find out I'd been overpaying for coffee supplies, so I feel your pain on a much smaller scale.

Yeah exactly, people underestimate how much those little billing errors add up over years. The forensic accountant basically paid for herself by catching all that duplicate stuff. Good call pushing for it even when everyone said no.
