TIL the official story about the 2013 meteor over Chelyabinsk changed after a few years.

I used to just watch the dashcam videos, but now I dig into the Russian Academy of Sciences reports. The initial energy estimate got revised up by like 30 kilotons. Anyone else notice how these 'facts' quietly shift?

Yeah the "facts quietly shift" thing happens everywhere. I see it with weather forecasts and product recalls all the time. Makes you wonder what else we just accept as settled.

Notice how forecasts get more accurate as the date gets closer, though. That's not facts shifting, it's just getting better data. Recalls often happen because new info comes to light, not because the old facts were wrong. Feels like a sign of learning, not hiding things.

My buddy's car got recalled after they found a new wiring problem.
