On my last pour, the homeowner demanded sealing right after we finished

It was a large driveway project, and they wanted it sealed immediately. I typically delay a day, but some finishers claim early sealing traps water. When do you apply sealant, right after or later?

Ugh, @young.lucas, that's such a common mess-up. What folks don't realize is that sealant can act like a plastic bag if the air's too humid when you apply it. Like, sealing a window during a rainy week means moisture from the air gets locked in with the wood. Then when the sun hits it, that water heats up and softens the wood from the inside. I've seen paint bubble up and peel off because of that. Really makes you double-check the weather before grabbing the caulk gun.

Used to believe any sealant was better than none. Saw a neighbor's deck boards warp and split after a summer because they sealed right after a morning rain. The wood looked wet when they applied it. Now I'm super careful about checking for dry wood and low humidity. That visual of cracked boards totally changed how I prep for those jobs.
