Phone overheated mid-set at a basement show in Philly, lost 20 minutes of audio

Last Friday I was at this tiny venue in South Philly, maybe 60 people packed into a basement, and the band was killing it. I had my phone propped on a beer crate about 10 feet from the PA, recording steady for like 40 minutes, when the screen went black from heat and battery drain. I panicked, grabbed a cold can of seltzer from the bar and pressed it against the back of my phone for a solid 5 minutes, which sounds nuts but it worked. When it powered back on, I had a 50 minute file but the last 20 minutes of the set were just silence, no warning, no buffer. I ended up asking a guy next to me who was also recording if he'd trade files, and we did a partial swap on the spot. Has anyone else had a phone just give up mid-show, and did you find a way to recover that lost chunk or just accept the gap?

man that seltzer move is the most Philly thing i've ever heard, respect. honestly you got lucky it even saved 30 minutes of it, my phone did the same thing at a DIY show last summer and i lost literally the whole set because it corrupted the file on shutdown. the silence thing is brutal though, like the phone just decided the encore wasn't worth its thermal limit. at least you got the dude's file, half a set is better than zero and now you got a fun story about emergency beverage engineering. next time just bring a cheap external recorder and save yourself the heartbreak, phones ain't built for basement heat.
