Debate: Are those expensive drysuit repair patches worth the money or just a gimmick?
I dropped $80 on a branded repair patch kit for a small tear in my drysuit, but a buddy swears a $15 rubber patch from the hardware store works just as well. Lost a whole weekend waiting for the fancy stuff to ship while his fix held up fine on a shallow dive. Anyone else have luck with the cheap route or is it just asking for trouble?

Nah, cheap route works fine. Just make sure the bond is solid.

I feel your pain on waiting for shipping, that's always the worst part. I've been down that road with gear before and it's frustrating when the cheap fix holds up fine. Honestly the bond quality matters more than the brand name. Unless you're dealing with latex or something really finicky, a good hardware store patch will probably do the job. Sucks that you wasted a weekend but at least now you know for next time.
