My comic shop in Portland used to have a strict 'no bags' policy for new releases.

Back in 2019, I'd walk out holding a mint copy of Immortal Hulk #1 with my bare hands, sweating the whole way home. Now, after seeing a guy drop a stack of books in a puddle, I bring my own Mylar bags and boards every Wednesday. Anyone else have a local shop rule that made you change your collecting habits?

Wait, they wouldn't even bag a new book for you? I mean, that's just asking for trouble. I started keeping a few spare bags in my car's glove box after a rainstorm wrecked a book I just bought. It's not even about being a hardcore collector, it's just basic protection.

My shop's no-bag rule taught me to always carry supplies.

That no-bag rule always seemed backwards to me... like they were setting people up for failure. It's smart you bring your own stuff now, @emmafisher. My old shop had a rule against holding books for more than a day, which just made me stop asking for pulls altogether. I started going to a different place that gets how collectors actually think.
