Just saw fans at a meetup ridicule someone for their favorite character... this kind of thing ruins it for everyone.

Honestly saw the same thing happen at a con last year. Called the bullies out by just asking why it mattered so much to them. Tbh kept my voice calm but made sure the person being picked on knew I was on their side. It shut the rude fans down pretty fast when they had to explain their dumb take. That kind of quiet support can really change the whole vibe for the person getting hate.

Something that doesn't get talked about enough is how many people freeze in those moments, even when they want to help. They might hold their breath or overthink the right thing to say, and then the moment passes. Just naming that tension can make it easier for others to step in next time.

It's the same energy as laughing at someone's lunch in the break room, just with more cosplay.
