A cashier at a thrift store laughed at my vintage map of a city that never existed
She flipped it over and said 'this is a waste of 3 bucks' so I bought it just to prove a point, but now I'm wondering if she was right about some of these fantasy maps, has anyone else had a stranger trash their collection and somehow make a valid point?

Realize that the cashier probably wasn't wrong about the map being a waste of money, just about the value you put on it. Fantasy maps of places that never existed are their own thing, they're not meant to be accurate for real travel or history. The mistake is treating them like they should match up with the real world, when they're really just art or a fun piece of imagination. That 3 bucks bought you a conversation starter and a cool piece of decor, so it did its job. But if she thought you were using it to find a real city, then yeah, she had a point about it not being useful for that. Next time, just tell the cashier it's for the wall, not for directions, and walk away smiling.
