Check the roast date on those budget bags. A lot of grocery store beans sit on shelves for months, losing flavor. Freshness matters, but so does knowing how fresh they really are!

Yeah, the "losing flavor" part is so real. I grabbed a bag once that was roasted six months prior, tasted like cardboard. Ryan_taylor is right, you gotta check that date before you buy anything.
