Update: I thought learning Python first was the only way, but my friend's kid picked up JavaScript and built a game in a month.

Everyone in my coding group pushes Python for beginners, but I watched a 12-year-old use freeCodeCamp's JavaScript course and make a simple browser game. The instant visual feedback from changing code kept him going. Has anyone else seen a beginner do better with a different first language?

That "instant visual feedback" is a trap. It teaches bad habits for real problem solving.

But that instant feedback is what keeps beginners from quitting.

What's the point of learning if you quit first?
