Why does nobody talk about how touch screens on new machines are a pain
I was dead set against getting one of those newer CNCs with the touch interface. Thought it was just a gimmick for guys who couldn't read dials. But after my shop got a Haas with one last month, I gotta admit it saves me time on setups. Still, the screen gets greasy fast and I have to wipe it down every 10 minutes. Anyone else find themselves fighting with a touch screen mid-cycle?

Laughing at myself here because I swore I'd never own a touch screen machine, now I'm wiping grease off mine with a shop rag like a crazy person. It's honestly faster for programming but my fingers feel like they're fighting a greased up tablet every time I need to hit a button. Pretty sure half my screen smudges are from me trying to set tool offsets while covered in coolant.

Oh trust me, you're not alone in that battle. I swear touchscreens in a shop environment were designed by someone who's never touched a greasy machine in their life. The whole "wiping grease off with a shop rag" routine is basically a new daily ritual now, isn't it? But honestly, my fat fingers are way more accurate on that greasy screen than they ever were on those tiny membrane buttons on old machines. The real question is how long before the screen just gives up and starts developing its own permanent grease pattern that becomes the new layout. At least the shop rags are getting a good workout between tool changes.
