The 3am chimney fire in Park Slope that changed my whole inspection routine
Last February I was called out to a brownstone in Park Slope where a homeowner had been burning green wood for months and the creosote buildup caught, so now I always check the smoke chamber angle with a mirror before I even break out the brushes, has anyone else had a close call that made you add a step to your process?

Man, that story gives me the chills! I had a similar wake-up call last spring when I found a bird's nest shoved right up against the flue liner. Now I always run a camera up there before I do anything else, even on routine cleanings. My wife jokes I'm part plumber now with all the gear I haul around. But honestly, one close call is all it takes to slow down and check every little corner twice.
