Warning: I heard a guy at the diner say he uses soap on his cast iron every day
He was telling his buddy it's the only way to get it clean, and that the seasoning is 'bulletproof'. In my experience, a little dish soap is fine, but scrubbing with coarse salt and hot water works just as well without risking the polymerized oil layer. Has anyone else had a pan that could actually handle daily soap without losing its non-stick feel?

My buddy Dave's old lodge skillet can take a full soapy scrub and still fry an egg without sticking. He got it from his grandpa, so maybe it's just built different.

Seriously, my cousin has one just like that. It sat in her garage for years all rusty, she cleaned it up and now it's her best pan. Makes perfect grilled cheese every single time, no oil needed. Those old ones are just tanks.
