My shift from lard to plant oils in cast iron care.

True, lard is a byproduct, but you have to look at the whole system. That animal farming for meat and fat uses a huge amount of land and water. Choosing plant oils can cut demand for that whole industry bit by bit. It's not just about the one product on the shelf. The goal is to shrink our overall footprint, and every small choice adds up. Using less animal stuff anywhere helps.

Wait, but isn't lard a byproduct? Switching might actually use more new resources.
