My cast iron was guzzling oil and I didn't realize the waste

I always put a lot of oil on my pan after cleaning it, thinking it helped the seasoning. This meant I finished bottles of oil really fast and had to get new ones all the time. One week, I saw all the empty bottles in my recycling box and it clicked how much I was throwing away. I talked to a friend who knows about pans, and they said using too much oil is not needed and can make the pan messy. Now, I just rub a small amount of oil on the warm pan after I dry it on the stove. The pan still works perfectly for eggs and other foods. I use way less oil, so I buy less and make less trash. It feels good to take care of my pan without being wasteful.

A paper towel wipe is all you need.

Actually, some spills need soap and water too. Sorry @the_cora, but a paper towel just spreads grease around. You really need a proper scrub for that.

My roommate's Honda Civic in 2015. He spilled motor oil on the driveway. Paper towels just made a bigger mess. We dumped kitty litter on it overnight. Swept that up and used soapy water after. That stain never fully came out.
