Old timer's trick with a knee kicker actually won me over

I used to swear by power stretchers for every single room, thought knee kickers were for hacks. Then last month I was doing a tiny 6x8 hallway in a condo over in Austin and this retired installer named Carl watched me struggle with the layout. He just said 'let the kicker do the talking' and showed me how to feather the edges with a lighter touch, no stretching force. Watching him smooth out a wrinkle in under two minutes without a power tool really changed my mind. I still use the power stretcher for big spaces, but now I keep a good knee kicker handy for tight spots. Anyone else got a trick from an old timer they ignored for way too long?

Man, a 2 minute wrinkle fix is cool and all, but I still gotta see it hold up after a year of Texas heat before I’m ditching my power stretcher. Feels like one of those tricks that only works because the old guy already knew the floor was level.
