Picked up a tip at a cabinet shop in Denver last week

Dude there said he pre-drills every face frame joint with a brad point bit. Even for pocket holes. Said it saves him from splitting oak on the final pass. Ever tried that or is he just being too careful?

Plot twist: the cabinet guy probably also pre-drills his cereal before adding milk. But hey, if it saves you from splitting oak on the last hole, maybe he's onto something - you ever snapped a board on the final drive and wanted to throw the whole clamp across the shop?

Pre-drilling cereal is definitely a next-level commitment to the process, honestly. But hey, if that guy's been building cabinets for 20 years without a split, maybe he's just playing 4D chess while the rest of us are still stuck in checkers. I've definitely had that moment where you're one hole away from freedom and the wood just decides to crack like an egg. Makes you wonder if the whole "measure twice, cut once" thing should also apply to "pre-drill everything, even your toast." Though if he's drilling his cereal, I'm kind of curious what bit he uses for that. Probably a Brad point, because those are the only ones that don't tear out the edges.
