Hot take: that 5 mile mud bog we did last weekend near Timmins proved everyone wrong about stock tires

My buddy Josh kept saying I'd get stuck in his old Skidoo tracks with my stock ATV tires, so after I made it through all 5 miles without a single winch pull he just sat there quiet for like 10 minutes, has anyone else found stock tires actually hold up better than people give them credit for in deep Canadian mud?

Did you run your tires at lower pressure for that bog? I've found dropping them to around 12 psi makes a huge difference in how they grip in soupy mud. My stock tires on my old Outlander actually surprised me a few times in the muskeg near Cochrane just by airing down and keeping steady momentum. The key is not to spin them like crazy - that just digs you in deeper. Sounds like you kept your head and let the tires do the work, which is more than half the battle up there.

Funny you mention airing down, reminds me of this one time near Kapuskasing where my cousin ran his old Bombardier at full pressure through a bog and it was like watching a bull in a china shop. He ended up high-centered on a hidden log about 200 yards in and we had to winch him out backwards while he cussed like a sailor. Stock tires can surprise you if you treat them right, but they'll punish you just as fast if you don't. My old Arctic Cat with the stock Dunlops always seemed to do best when I just let them crawl rather than trying to tear through everything. Did you ever run into that weird clay-based mud up around Smooth Rock Falls that turns into concrete if you stop moving?
