Vent: my tent pole snapped at a windy campsite near Leadville and a stranger fixed it with a hacksaw blade
Two summers back I was camped off County Road 4 near Leadville when a gust bent one of my aluminum poles into a horseshoe and I figured the trip was done. A guy two sites over pulled out a little hacksaw blade, cut the busted section, and slid a $3 brass ferrule over the break so the pole still held the tent up, and that setup lasted me 11 more nights. Now I keep a spare ferrule and blade in my repair kit, but does anyone know if cutting the pole short messes with the tent's shape, or should I just buy a whole new pole set instead?
