TIL my old sleeping bag was way too heavy for summer in Yosemite
My buddy's pack was half my weight and he pulled out a tiny bag rated for 40 degrees. Anyone else used a winter bag in July?

Been there, done that. I brought a heavy 15-degree bag on a late June trip and ended up sleeping on top of it most nights. @butler.brian is right, you just end up a sweaty mess. It's a tough lesson to learn when you're carrying all that extra weight for no reason.

Oh man, that's a classic rookie mistake! I did the same thing once and sweated all night.

Tell me about it. I once brought a winter bag on a summer trip because I was scared of getting cold. Felt like I was sleeping in a sauna.
