Serious question, my buddy in Denver said he sleeps better in a bivy than a tent now
We were talking about a trip to the Maroon Bells and he said his old 2 pound bivy sack lets him hear the creek all night and he wakes up with the sun. I always thought they were just for hardcore mountaineers, but he said it changed his whole idea of comfort from big shelter to simple connection. Anyone else made that switch and found you actually prefer it for certain trips?

Ever think that feeling like a burrito is part of the charm? It sounds weird but that tight wrap is weirdly safe... and you're just right there in the middle of everything. My tent started to feel like a stuffy hotel room after I tried a bivy. Waking up with the light right on your face and no nylon wall in the way... it just hits different. It's not about being hardcore, it's about trading a little space for a lot more feeling.

Wow, your buddy is officially a nature hippie now. I tried a bivy once and felt like a burrito left out in the rain. Guess some people really do trade a dry tent for the sound of a creek.
