Just realized I was cleaning shutter blades wrong for years

So I've been repairing cameras for about 8 years now and I always used isopropyl alcohol on sticky shutter blades. Last month I was working on an old Canon A-1 and the blades were still sluggish after 3 cleanings. A guy on a forum mentioned using lighter fluid instead, I thought he was kidding. Tried it on a junk body first and the difference was night and day. The alcohol was leaving a residue I couldn't see. Anyone else run into this or have a different solvent that works better?

Yeah, naphtha based fluid is the only thing that actually cuts the old grease without leaving film.
