TIL a trick for getting perfect drawer slides when the cabinet box isn't perfectly square

After fighting with a stubborn vanity install in an old house, I tried using a 3/4 inch spacer block against the back of the cabinet to set the slide depth before screwing it in, which solved the binding issue in about 10 minutes.

Yeah, that spacer trick is solid. I saw a video once where a guy used a combo square set to the exact depth instead of a block, same idea. Old house cabinets are never straight, so you have to cheat the system. My last project had a drawer that scraped until I shimmed the back of the slide with a couple of washers. It's all about making your own reference points.

Sounds like a lot of extra steps for a simple job. Just measure twice and screw it in straight, the old way works fine.

My buddy used pennies as shims once.
