Had to pick between a $600 Festool sander or a $200 Makita for a big maple job last month.

Went with the Makita and after 40 hours of sanding, my wrist is killing me and I'm kicking myself for not just renting the Festool for the weekend, anyone have a go-to sander for big flat panels that doesn't vibrate your arm off?

You said you were kicking yourself for not renting the Festool. But renting a pro tool for a weekend job is a solid move, isn't it? Saves your wrist and your wallet.

Man this is the classic weekend warrior trap right here. We all try to save a buck upfront and end up paying for it in pain and time later. I see it with my buddies buying cheap socket sets that strip bolts or skimping on knee pads for a tile job. That extra cost for the right tool is really just buying your future self a break, literally.
