My credit card auto pay glitched and I caught it at a gas station in Tulsa
I was filling up on Route 66 last Tuesday and decided to check my bank app on a whim. Saw a $1,200 payment didn't go through and the late fee was already pending. Called my card company right there at the pump and got the fee waived, plus they sent me a reminder alert for next time. Has anyone else had a close call like that with autopay?

Actually what nobody's talking about is how the timing of autopay glitches often lines up with credit card companies doing system updates overnight. I noticed this pattern a few years back when my payment got skipped the exact same night my card issuer sent me an email about "scheduled maintenance." If you look at the fine print on their website, they usually say autopay might not process during those windows. Your mileage may vary but I'd bet your Tulsa gas station moment happened right around 2-3am when they're tinkering with their servers.

You mentioned catching it "at a gas station on Route 66" and I gotta ask, were you actually on a road trip or just getting gas? Because for me the scary part is always when I'm traveling and not checking stuff regularly. I've had autopay mess up twice, once it was because my card expired and they never sent a new one, and the other time it was some weird bank holiday thing. How often do you usually check your bank app? I'm bad about it sometimes and only look when I get a notification. Makes me wonder if all card companies are actually good about waiving fees when you catch it fast like that or if you just got lucky.
