Heard my neighbor say they saved $80 a month just by asking

I was taking out the trash yesterday and my neighbor, Mark, was on his phone. He said, 'Yeah, I just called and asked if there was a better plan, and they knocked $80 off my bill right away.' That got me thinking. I pay for internet, phone, and a streaming service. I called my internet company today and told them I was looking at other options. They put me on a new plan that's the same speed but costs $25 less each month. It took maybe 15 minutes on hold. I'm going to call my phone company next week. It feels like free money you just have to ask for. Has anyone else tried this and had a company say no?

What happens if they just say no to giving you a discount?

Just accept it and move on, honestly. I've had stores tell me no a bunch of times, @lopez.ivan. The key is to be cool about it so you can still buy the thing if you want. Maybe ask if they have any upcoming sales you should wait for, or if buying a bigger package gets a better price. Sometimes that works when a straight discount doesn't. If not, you decide if the full price is worth it.
