Took me 4 years to realize packing cubes are actually worth it

I always thought packing cubes were a gimmick for people with too much money. Then last month on a 10 day trip to Nashville I spent 20 minutes every morning digging through my bag for socks. My buddy handed me one of his extra cubes and suddenly I could grab a whole outfit in 5 seconds. Has anyone else had a random cheap travel item totally flip your opinion?

and the real game changer is getting the compression ones. i fought it for years thinking it was just rolling your clothes differently. then my girlfriend threw a set in my bag for a work trip and i came back a believer. now i have four different sizes and i actually get annoyed if i have to pack without them.

Oh man, the compression ones just made me realize I've been living like an absolute caveman my whole adult life. I used to just shove everything in a garbage bag and call it a day, hoping the TSA wouldn't judge me too hard. Now I have a whole system where each cube is for a different category of clothes and I feel like a wizard every time I zip one up. It's honestly embarrassing how much easier my life got from a simple zippered fabric rectangle.

Take it one step further and label them. I use a sharpie on a piece of masking tape stuck to each cube. Sounds dumb but when you're unpacking at 11pm in a hotel room you don't have to guess which cube has your socks and which has your backup jeans. Also, if you travel with kids, give each kid their own color of cube. Makes them responsible for their own stuff and you can just grab and go without digging through a shared pile. The other thing nobody tells you is to buy the half-size cubes for underwear and socks. Full size ones waste too much space for small items.
