Paid for a 'skip the line' ticket in Rome and still waited 45 minutes

Bought a 'skip the line' pass for the Colosseum online. Cost me an extra 25 euros. Got there, the 'priority' line was just as long as the regular one. Ended up waiting almost an hour anyway. Anyone know a real way to avoid those queues without getting scammed?

Yeah, that "priority line" being just as long is the worst part. You pay extra for the promise of saving time and it feels like a total trick. Happened to me at the Vatican a few years back, same kind of wait. Makes you wonder what you're even paying for, right?

Maybe they just sell more tickets than they can handle, idk.

Totally agree, it's such a scam. Saw the same thing at a big museum last summer, the "skip the line" line was wrapped around the block. Jamiesingh is right, you pay that extra fee thinking you're being smart, but you're just in a different, equally slow moving crowd. It feels like they create the problem just to sell the solution. Makes me not want to buy those tickets at all anymore.
