Just realized how much cheaper it is to buy a whole chicken and break it down myself
I saw a video from a butcher in Austin showing you can get 3 meals from one $8 bird. I always bought the pre-cut packs and was spending way more. Has anyone else tried this and have meal ideas for the different parts?

That Austin butcher is a real money saver.

Got a whole pork shoulder there last week for under twenty bucks. Made pulled pork that fed us for three days. Their chicken thighs are way cheaper than the grocery store packs too. I don't even look at steak anywhere else now. The quality for the price just can't be beat.

It's a game changer for the budget. Breaking down the bird feels like a small win every time. I use the breasts for a stir fry, the thighs go into a pot of soup, and the wings get roasted with some spices. The carcass makes the best stock, which is basically free food. It does take a bit of practice with the knife, but it's worth the effort.
