Had a total lentil soup disaster in my old apartment kitchen, like 2015 maybe?

Used to believe it was just my bad cooking skills. My old stove's one working burner would either boil soup into cement or leave it cold. @skylerc86 is right about old kitchens. That uneven heat turned a simple lentil soup into a burnt, watery mess every single time. Never got a decent meal out of that place.
