Showerthought: spent 12 years buttering the whole brick before I watched an old timer do it
Was laying a run of face brick on a house in Aurora last summer and this guy named Ray who has been at it for 40 years just laughed at me. He said I was wasting mortar smearing the full bed and all I needed was a good head joint and enough on the bed for the next brick to squash into. I counted it out and I was going through almost 3 extra bags on a 500 brick day. Cost me money and slowed me down for years. So do you float the whole frog or just butter the ends?
