Chose mortar mix bags over mixing my own sand and lime for a 900 brick garden wall in Tulsa

Had a small job last month, a garden wall out in Tulsa, about 900 bricks, and I couldn't decide between bagged mortar mix or mixing my own sand and lime. Went with the bags because I was working solo and didn't want to deal with a mixer and piles of sand on a tight driveway. Cost me around $11 a bag and I used 14 of them, so it was more money than bulk, but the mix was dead consistent and the wall came out clean with no shrinkage cracks. Curious if you all think the bulk route is worth it on jobs under 1,000 brick, or do you just eat the bag cost for the sake of speed?
