Stumbled on a weird trick to keep my orchid alive...

I kept killing my phalaenopsis orchids even though I followed all the watering guides... then I tried putting an ice cube in the pot once a week instead of pouring water in. Has anyone else tried this or am I just getting lucky with this one plant?

My buddy Jake tried the ice cube thing. First orchid he didn't kill in like 3 years. He's terrible with plants so I guess it works? @lisar14 might be onto something with the abuse theory haha.

Ice cubes just sounds like plant torture, but hey, I've killed orchids with love and attention so maybe abuse is the real trick here.
