Nearly lost all my seedlings at the community garden last Tuesday
I showed up at the Elm Street community garden around 7 AM to water my tomato seedlings. Some volunteer had hosed down the whole plot overnight without checking what plants were there. The soil was muddy and half my seedlings were flattened or drowned. Now I'm thinking about putting up a small fence or at least a sign... has anyone else had issues with overzealous watering at shared garden spaces?

Some volunteer just decided to soak everything without checking first? That's wild. I mean, who waters a whole plot like that without seeing what's actually growing there. Half your tomatoes flattened and drowned, that's just plain frustrating. A small fence with a sign that says "check before watering" might help, but honestly some people just don't pay attention.

Totally agree with you @maxm63, it's like they saw a garden and thought "must water everything in sight" without a second thought. I mean, I've definitely been that volunteer before (oops), but I learned the hard way after drowning my own basil patch. A little fence and sign sounds like a good idea, but you're right, some folks just zone out and water whatever's in front of them. At least the tomatoes that survived are probably extra hydrated now, right?
