My girlfriend's birthday surprise turned into a plant rescue mission
I planned this whole day trip to the botanical garden in Asheville for her birthday last month. We got there and it was amazing, but then we saw they had this little section where they were selling off some 'problem' orchids for like five bucks each. They looked rough, leaves all droopy. We ended up buying three of them, and the whole drive home we were just googling orchid care nonstop. It was actually more fun than just looking at the perfect ones. Has anyone else ever brought home a sad plant from a garden sale and nursed it back?

Sounds like a waste of a birthday trip to me... you went to see nice plants and came home with a bunch of work. I'd rather just enjoy the pretty ones and not have a dying project on my windowsill.

I mean, I get what you're saying about not wanting a dying project on your windowsill, @jadeg81. I read this thing once about how some people really like the process of trying to keep a plant alive, like it's part of the fun. Maybe it's just me but bringing a plant home feels different than just looking at it, you know? It's like you have a little piece of the trip. Sure they might die, but idk, I don't mind the work.
