Caught my mom having a full conversation with her fern last night

Last evening, I walked into the living room and found my mom talking to her big Boston fern. She was telling it about her day, like it was a person. I asked her what was up, and she said the fern listens better than my dad. Then my dad chimed in from the kitchen, arguing that he does listen. Now, they're both trying to win the fern's approval by watering it extra. It's become this weird family competition. Honestly, I think the fern is getting too much water now.

Remember my neighbor's cactus that started leaning toward their barking dog all the time. They swore the cactus was mocking the dog's posture. Ended up moving the plant to a different room because the dog would whine at it. Whole thing got really weird for a few weeks. Honestly some plants just become part of the family drama without trying.

Ever think the plant is just caught in the middle? Stories like yours and daniel511's show it's usually the people, not the leaves, making things weird. Sounds like your family just needed something neutral to argue through.

That "neutral thing to argue through" idea from olivia799 is spot on. What's the weirdest non-plant object you've seen a family project their drama onto? Like, my aunt once had a years-long cold war with her sister over a specific gravy boat at holidays.
