Thought paper gaskets were best until a 12 hour seal job on a boiler in Pittsburgh failed twice

Switched to a ceramic rope gasket after an old foreman told me to try it and it's held for 6 months now with no leaks, has anyone else had better luck with ceramic over paper on high temp applications?

Damn, that's a good run. Did you have to scrape off any residue from the paper gasket before you put the ceramic rope in?

Pittsburgh winters are brutal on any kind of gasket, man. Honestly, it took me two failed attempts on a similar job near the Monongahela before I figured out the same lesson. It's like that old saying about using the right tool for the right job, but with gaskets it's even more specific. I've started noticing this pattern everywhere, like how my buddy uses a cheap pair of pliers for everything and strips every bolt he touches, but a decent set of channel locks makes the job easy. The ceramic rope just handles the constant heat cycling way better than paper ever could, plain and simple.
