Overheard a journeyman say all new boilers are junk compared to the old ones.
He was talking about a job in Pittsburgh, saying the steel in a 1950s unit was thicker and better. But I've worked on plenty of those old beasts with cracked tubes and efficiency you could measure with a sundial. The new ones I installed last week have monitoring systems that catch problems before they blow. Isn't clinging to the old ways just asking for a call back at 3 AM?

Ever had to replace a whole circuit board on a new unit? Sometimes that old steel just needs a weld, not a four hundred dollar part.
