Remember when everyone said you needed a dedicated game room? I thought it was just extra stuff.

For a long time, my group just played on a kitchen table in my apartment. Then my friend Mike turned his garage in Austin into a full setup with shelves, good lights, and a big table. After playing his copy of Scythe there, I saw how much it helped us focus and keep pieces safe. Now I get why people make the space, even if it's just a corner. What's one thing you added to your play area that actually made a big difference?

Ever try playing on a rug?

My play area is just a folding table, but at least I haven't stabbed it with a sword yet.

Honestly, a folding table is a solid move. I keep a cheap vinyl tablecloth in my game bag for spills and dice rolls. It saves the surface and hides any old stains.

Look, a nice table is cool and all, but it's still just a game. My group has spilled drinks on rulebooks and lost pieces under the couch for years. The game still happens. People get way too into the idea of a perfect setup when the point is just hanging out. A dedicated room feels like making a hobby into a second job.
