Putting a hold on new board games changed how our group plays
I kept bringing home new board games every month, and my shelf was getting full but we barely touched half of them. When I finally stopped, we dug into the games we already had and our game nights got way more focused and fun. Have you tried slowing down on new buys and did it make your game sessions better?

It's funny how that works, isn't it? We see the same thing with streaming services now, where having fewer choices often leads to actually watching something good. Getting really good at the rules of a few games and finding all the hidden stuff in them is way more satisfying than just learning a new setup every time. It makes me wonder what other things we own, like kitchen gadgets or books, we'd enjoy more if we just stopped buying new ones for a while.

Is this really some big life lesson though? I get what you're saying about playing what you own, but hollycooper comparing it to streaming and kitchen gadgets feels like overthinking it. Sometimes a new game is just fun to buy and try, it doesn't have to be a whole thing about focus. My group still buys a new game once in a while and we enjoy our old ones too, it's not one or the other.
