Got stuck watching a bad show for 6 hours before I finally let myself quit

This happened to me a couple weekends ago. I was at my sister's place in Denver and she put on this new mystery series that everyone was talking about. We watched two episodes and I felt like nothing was happening. But I kept thinking maybe it would get better if I just gave it more time. So I sat there for four more episodes, getting more bored by the minute. Finally around midnight I just said out loud "I don't like this" and turned it off. Now I give any show three episodes max. If it hasn't grabbed me by then, I move on. Has anyone else struggled with forcing themselves through shows you weren't enjoying?

oh man, i totally get this. what finally worked for me was giving myself full permission to bail after one episode if i'm not feeling it. i used to force myself through whole seasons because of fomo but now i just trust my gut. like last month i dropped this hyped netflix show after 20 minutes cause it felt like homework. way less stressful and frees up time for stuff i actually enjoy.

Wait, do people actually force themselves through shows they hate? I used to be guilty of that too, @jade_grant95. The sunk cost thing is real, like you've already invested three episodes so you might as well finish the season. But honestly, life is way too short for bad TV. I've learned that dropping a show after twenty minutes is better than wasting ten hours. Now I just flip through stuff until something clicks, no guilt. It feels good to just leave a show hanging.
