Finally picked The Wire over The Sopranos and made it past episode 5

For about two years my cousin kept bugging me to start The Wire but I always picked The Sopranos rewatch instead. Back in March I finally flipped a coin and went with The Wire, and the first four episodes felt slow until Wallace and D'Angelo pulled me in. I finished season 2 in six days, which is fast for me since I usually do one episode a night after work. Now my cousin wants me to jump straight to The Sopranos for a first watch, but I am not sure anything tops that Stringer and Avon storyline. Did anyone else stall on the early episodes before it clicked?
