DAE think the 'background TV' trend ruined binge watching? My roommate said I was 'doing it wrong' for actually paying attention
My roommate walked in on me watching all 5 seasons of The Wire over 3 weeks and said 'why are you just sitting there staring, you can have it on while you fold laundry.' I told him I rewind if I miss a single line and he laughed at me for 'wasting' the show. He watches everything at 1.5x speed with subtitles on and calls it efficient. Last month I tried his way with a new crime drama and by episode 4 I could not tell you who the killer was or why anyone cared. The plot threads all blurred into background noise and the big reveal landed with zero weight. So I went back and restarted it properly, phone face down, no folding, no scrolling, and it hit ten times harder. I think the whole 'second screen' thing is why so many people say nothing good comes out anymore. Am I the weird one for treating a show like it deserves my eyes or is passive watching actually the norm now?
