Had to pick between a $40 torque wrench and my gut feeling, gut lost
Reassembled a carbon stem on a customer's road bike last Tuesday and the click-type wrench I borrowed from the shop next door read 5 Nm, but my hand said it felt tighter. I went with the wrench because I figured 15 years of feel doesn't beat a calibrated tool, and sure enough the bolt creaked when I torqued it again. Turns out that thing was 0.8 Nm off, so now I'm wondering how many other shops are running on faith instead of a $60 calibration check. Anyone else trust their wrist over a questionable tool and regret it?

My gut feeling has cost me more than any torque wrench ever has.
