My choice between a stick burner and a pellet smoker last summer was brutal
I live in Kansas City and I had to decide between a $1200 stick burner from a local builder or a Traeger pellet rig for my backyard comp setup. I went with the stick burner because I wanted that real smoke flavor, even though it meant waking up at 4 AM every Saturday. After 8 months of babysitting fire and fighting temperature swings, I am honestly questioning if I shoulda just got the pellet smoker for convenience. Any of you guys switch from one type of pit to the other and regret it?

OH MAN you are speaking my language! I went through the EXACT same struggle last year and I swear my neighbors thought I was running a 24/7 train repair shop with all the banging and swearing coming from my backyard at dawn. I eventually got so sick of fighting the temp swings that I glued a welding blanket to the side of my stick burner like some kind of backyard science project. It kind of works but now I look like I'm cooking on a giant metal burrito. Not my finest moment.
